The candle
An old man who lost everything lives in a dark cave, with no hope left.
One day, he finds a candle. It is not a friend, nor an enemy it simply exists. With nothing left to lose, he chooses to carry it.
Every step forward becomes a fight to protect its fragile flame—not just from the darkness, but from despair itself.
In the end, the candle is more than wax and fire.It is hope. A reminder that even the smallest light can change the path of a life lost in shadows.

Design Pillars I win-Lose conditions

-
Simple & intuitive → easy to pick up.

Constant tension → darkness and scent pressure.
-
Symbolic meaning → defending the candle = defending hope.

Lose: Candle extinguished, step outside light, or enemy contact.

Prototype Goal
A short 5-minute playable prototype focused on capturing the core feeling of protecting a fragile light, while trying to survive.
Bullets:
-
One mechanic
-
One enemy
-
One short level
-
Fast iteration & testing
What I will NOT include (yet)
To stay focused, I’m intentionally excluding:
-
Advanced systems (scent, water mechanics)
-
Multiple enemies or complex AI Progression, upgrades, or meta systems
-
Final art style or polish
If the core doesn’t work without these, adding them won’t fix it.

The one mechanic

The candle sits on top of the old man’s head, and its light slowly fades over time. The player must constantly collect matches to keep it alive, creating tension, meaningful decisions, and light resource managemen.
This alone creates:
-
Decision making
-
Tension
-
Resource management

Gameplay (prototype)

The prototype begins inside a dark cave, serving as the game's introduction area.
Here, the player learns the core mechanic of the candle, which acts as both a source of light and protection. During this section, the player encounters the Whispers for the first time, introducing the main threat of the game in a controlled and safe environment before the journey begins.
